A Closer Look at Golden Barrel Cactus
Rounded golden-spined cactus with sculptural appeal. A round, sun-loving focal point for very freely drained plantings.
Each plant's mature size, cold tolerance and care can vary with its exact variety and growing site. Review our care resources and ask our team about pot sizes, winter planning and the specimen you are considering.
Golden Spines and Mature Flowers
Golden barrel cactus is known for its rounded, ribbed body and dense golden spines. Established, mature plants may produce yellow flowers near the crown under favorable growing conditions; flowering is not guaranteed in every setting.
Best Uses and Winter Care
Cluster different sizes for a bold desert-garden focal point, or grow a specimen in a well-drained container. These cacti need very sharp drainage and should be protected from freezing and prolonged winter moisture in climates beyond their tolerance.
